How Threads’s algorithm actually works
Threads borrows heavily from Instagram's discovery model — your existing IG followers seed your starting audience, and the For You feed mixes follow-graph and recommendation. The platform is still in active iteration, so signals shift month to month. Reposts and replies seem to weigh heaviest in current experiments; pure likes carry less than on most platforms.
What works on Threads (and what’s overrated)
- Cross-posting from Instagram works but caps your reach — native Threads-first content does better.
- Replies in long threads have unusually high reach right now (the algorithm rewards conversation).
- Don't expect TikTok-style virality — Threads is built for slow-burn audience growth.
- Posting frequency is rewarded heavier here than on Instagram. 3-5 posts/day is normal.
